FEE
I have a basic fee of €95,00 per hour, which includes digital post-production. However many assignments require more of a customised approach, for which I am happy to prepare a quotation on request.
ABOUT ME
Looking has become second nature to me. The world, my fellow man, nature - there is so much to discover and wonder at, just to see what's there.
Photography belongs there with me. In my work I specialise in personal, atmospheric reportage photography; portraits shot on location and documentary photography.
In documentary photography, the photographer highlights the surrounding historical and socially-shared world. Reportage photography describes key moments – and records the atmosphere of those moments. In both documentary and reportage photography the photographer should not only observe but also actually see and feel.
During assignments I work intuitively, and always strive for authenticity in an image. I am present in a warm and friendly way. At events I try as much as possible not to intrude in the spontaneity of a moment. Sometimes I might ask people to pose briefly, but generally I maintain a discreet presence, operating in the background.
Funeral photography is part of my work. During funerals I naturally remain as inconspicuous as possible.
With regard to my background, I studied Visual Communications at Portsmouth College of Art & Design from 1988-1991, after which I worked for a number of years as an assistant in The Hague, then went on to become a freelance photographer – also based in The Hague. From 1996 to 2001 I undertook a course in Art Therapy at the University of Leiden, and from 2006 to 2008 I studied at the Photo Academy, specialising in Documentary Photography.
